Chapter 2: Discussion
I. Definition of Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal thing to us and it is to normal to feel worry, fear also known as the uncomfortable feelings. Our Anxiety has a purpose in our life it lead us to be a better person or be a responsible person. In times anxiety becomes negative to us but it is not totally negative there is a positive in our anxiety. Like other says everything has a purpose even if it is a negative or positive. In an article entitled What is Anxiety? by the website known as Youthbeyondblue.com , "Anxiety is an uncomfortable feeling of fear or imminent disaster and is a normal emotional response to danger. The normal, healthy type of anxiety is usually brought on by some task in your life, such as a test or job interview. It only lasts a day or so, and doesn’t affect your health or day-to-day life. In many ways, a certain amount of anxiety is good for us, as it gets us hyped up to perform at our best." (http://www.youthbeyondblue.com/depression-and-anxiety/what-is-anxiety/)

II. What can anxiety benefits a person?

A. Anxiety In Dangerous Situations

The anxious person is usually best at calculating risks and coming up with solutions before a problem even occurs. In a dangerous situation, the anxious person has probably already pondered the situation beforehand and will most likely be a driving force in implementing the solution. Non-anxious people tend to live more in the moment. There is nothing wrong with that type of personality. But when danger strikes, it is the anxious person who has already formed a plan of action. And that is going to be most effective.

In an article entitled What are the benefits of anxiety and stated that:

"Anxious people are known for having a mind that runs constantly. They are always thinking of the what-ifs in life. Anxiety is a driving factor in those people who are always running different scenarios in their minds. “What would I do if I got a flat tire on the way to the airport?” or, “What happens if lightning strikes the tree outside my house?”" (http://theanxietytips.com/what-are-the-benefits-of-anxiety/)

The author said that the benefits of anxiety to person when there's dangerous situation you will become " Alert to Danger ". The “fight or flight” response is adaptive. Whether in an encounter with a sabre-toothed tiger in prehistoric times, or in a darkened alley today, this response protects us by pumping important biochemicals through our body needed to escape truly dangerous situations or fight if we need to.

For example when there is a dangerous situation or bad situation like taking a test there is in your mind that think " what if i get failed or get a low score " but the benefit of anxiety to that situation is you will become alert for every situation that you might encounter and you will be come always ready.

We get into trouble psychologically when the anxiety response “misfires,” going off in situations that are not true threats to life or limb. It is also improves our self knowledge and awareness because it can alert us to things we need to change in our lives, or about ourselves.  If anxiety arises repeatedly around a certain topic, it’s often a sign that we need to take a closer look. It may continue to pester us until we take action.

B. Anxiety in Friendships

People who accept them for who they are, anxiety and all, they are even more supportive of that relationship. Anxious people tend to be less judgmental and more accepting of others. They understand what it feels like to be different from those around them.

In an article entitled Benefits of Anxiety, Vickie Christensen stated that:

"On the surface, it may not sound like an anxious friend would make the best friend. Someone who is already worried about many things may come across as too preoccupied to really give emotions in their relationships. But that could not be further from the truth." (http://theanxietytips.com/what-are-the-benefits-of-anxiety/)

I have a friend who always shy to every person that he encountered. I think he is an anxious person but I realized that if you get his feelings that you understand him and vice versa he become more open to you.

The author said that people who are anxious, and are aware of their anxiety, appreciate those in their lives that are true to them. They have a better understanding of what it is like to need support, and understanding.

C .Anxiety In Leadership Roles

Possibly one of the easiest ways to understand where anxiety would be beneficial is in a leadership role. Any good leader possesses great thinking skills, excellent organization, great planning skills, and the ability to not only think on their feet, but to carry out new ideas quickly and efficiently.

In an article entitled Benefits of Anxiety, Vickie Christensen stated that:

"Anxiety keeps the brain moving in many directions at once. It serves to help people multitask and evaluate situations quickly. The most efficient leaders are those who own these skills.
Leaders who are lackadaisical and lack forethought are ineffective, and will soon find themselves replaced with one who has more drive, more anxiety fueling their fire." (http://theanxietytips.com/what-are-the-benefits-of-anxiety/)

He said that anxiety is not something that should rule our world, but it certainly has its place in our lives. Anxious people should not spend all their time worrying and not enjoying life. They should find that happy balance between stopping and smelling the roses, and knowing what they will do if one of those rose’s thorns happens to stick them.

In other article entitled The Benefits of Anxiety, Megan Sutherland stated that:

"Part of the Leadership Role is improving our self confidence. We realize our strength when we learn to move through it effectively. When we’re in the throws of anxiety, we can think that it will kill us." (http://willowtreecounselling.ca/articles/the-benefits-of-anxiety/)

For example for people to arrive at a hospital emergency department thinking that they are having a heart attack when, after a medical workup, no physical cause can be found. What we don’t realize when we’re in the thick of it is that bouts of anxiety always end.

Like waves in the ocean, they roll in and roll out. The tricky part is we don’t always know how long it will take, which can prove to be particularly distressing.  Sometimes we also don’t realize that there are strategies that we can learn to manage our anxiety. If anxiety has been a longstanding problem, a professional, experienced counselor can help to tailor an anxiety management program that’s right for you.  Anxiety is very treatable!  When you start to find and implement strategies that work for you, you’ll witness the effectiveness of your growing coping abilities first-hand which can be very gratifying indeed.
